Liddy, G. Gordon (George Gordon Battle Liddy, 1930.11.30- ) Talk show host, White House "Plumber," felon.
The "G" man, as syndicated talk radio listeners may know him, did not personally bring down the Presidency of Richard M. Nixon, but he masterminded the Watergate burglary which brought national attention to corruption at the White House.
Reportedly the burglars were looking for political intelligence for the fall's presidential election, but Liddy, true to his personal code of honor, wasn't talking. As the least cooperative witness, he served the longest sentence--4 1/2 years. Later Liddy claimed the break-in was the brainchild of White House counsel John Dean to steal pictures of prostitutes, including Dean's then girlfriend and later wife, from the committee's office. Released from prison in 1977, Liddy went on the lecture circuit and wrote the 1991 best selling Will: The Autobiography of G. Gordon Liddy, in part to pay off his $346,000 in legal debts. More recently he has hosted a nationally syndicated conservative talk show (coming in a distant second to Rush Limbaugh), naturally having it's own web site, theggordonliddyshow.com. He could be heard in Phoenix/Mesa on KXAM-AM 1310, in Tucson on KNST-AM 790, in Lake Havasu City on KNTR-AM 980, and in Show Low on KVSL-AM. Liddy lives part time in Scottsdale and usually does his radio show show from Northern Virginia, on which he bills himself as the G-man. Liddy's son, Tom Liddy, moved to Arizona in 1998, where he was a lawyer for a Phoenix firm. In 2000, he took a shot at a seat in the House for Arizona's 1st Congressional District. Although he had the support of his famous (infamous?) father and outspent the other 3 Republican primary candidates, he came in fourth. |
